In summer 2008. the Contra Costa Water District's broke ground on the alternative intake project. The AIP will help insure high quality drinking water to county residents through greater flexibility, but will not increase diversions from the delta. Funded by proposition 84, which included $5.4 billion for water infrastructure, the $100 million project will be completed July 2010. On April 29, 2008, construction worker John Bessolo walks away from the site at the end of the workday.
