A press conference, organized by Restore The Delta and attended by environmental groups, politicians and delta residents against the proposed peripheral canal took place at the state capital in Sacramento on July 7, 2009. The peripheral canal would move water around the Sacramento Delta area on it's way to irrigate land in the San Joaquin Valley.
