City Slicker Farms is now a thriving non-profit providing much-needed fresh produce to West Oakland residents. The sole source for above-ground water in his area is Lake McClure. Historically, the region has primarily relied on groundwater.  Now that is more the case then ever.

In 2010, after a year long legal battle, the tenants of 1702 N. 8th Street in the epicenter of gentrified Williamsburg, Brooklyn, overturned an unlawful order to vacate.  The landlord of the building refused to remove the padlock from the front door.  On June 11, tenants and their lawyers removed the lock and re-entered the building.  Their apartments, however, were found in complete disarray and the landlord refused to restore gas, sewage or water.
