After a year long legal battle, the tenants of 1702 N. 8th Street in the center of gentrified Williamsburg, Brooklyn, have overturned an unlawful order to vacate. The landlord of the building (Jamal Alokasheh of 172 Realty capital, inc.) has refused to remove the padlock from the front door. On June 11, tenants and their lawyers removed the lock and re-entered the building. Their apartments, however, were found in complete dissaray and the landlord refuses to restore gas, sewage or water. Here, Peter Pawlak and Jarina Kulesza inspect water damage in their apartment after a year of absence. It is due to a leaking roof.
